If the fact that you can purchase prescription medications for a cheaper price from an internet Canadian drug store is news to you, then you haven’t been paying very close attention.  The topic was discussed repeatedly during the recent debates over health care reform in the US, but some people were already clued in to this fact well before.  When people learn of this price discrepancy, they usually will seek out an internet Canadian drug store in which they can have their medications shipped right to their door, all while saving a good deal of money in the process.  So what are some of the reasons that cause US citizens to get charged much more for the exact same medications that are being sold much more cheaply in Canada?

One of the biggest, if not the biggest, reasons why there is a huge difference in the amount of money you pay for prescription medications at an internet Canadian drug store vs. a traditional US pharmacy has to do with government regulations that are in place.  In Canada, the government has put very strict and stringent rules and regulations into place that place a firm cap on what drug companies are allowed to charge for their drugs in the country.  There are fines and other penalties if a drug companies does not abide by these strict price limitations.  The US government, however, has no such regulations in place, so drug makers are free to charge as much money as they want to for their medications.  This however, has caused many US citizens to seek out an internet Canadian drug store in order to save money.

In addition to the fact that there are different government regulations in place that each has an effect on the cost of prescription drugs, there is also the issue of income.  The average US citizen makes a good deal more money in a year than the average Canadian citizen.  Drug companies realize this, which is why you can find cheaper prices at an internet Canadian drug store than you will at any US pharmacy.
