Prescription Drug – Common Side Effects and Precautions

If you are going to start on a new prescription drug, you may want to do your research ahead of time to see what possible reactions you can have from it. That way you can better prepare for a bad result if one happens and you’ll know how to adjust ahead of time. It doesn’t matter what kind of prescription drug you need, you will still have to be leery of some side effects that may come about. Here we will look at ways to prevent this from happening and what you should watch out for.

One of the best ways to avoid side effects with a new prescription drug is to talk to your doctor about any medications you are taking, as well as any past medical conditions you have. Some drugs will cause your past problems to resurface or worsen, so it is best to go over every aspect of your health before taking a new prescription drug. Your doctor will want to assess your drug and food allergies to see if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the new prescription drug. If you are, you will need to seek out an alternative solution.

Once you get your new drug prescription, you need to be sure to take it only as directed. A lot of problems can emerge when you use the wrong dosage of a medication. If you do over or under dose, you need to ask your doctor how to proceed. You may be able to continue on the drug just fine, or you may need to add/skip the next dosage. Do not go on any new medications while on the prescription drug without first talking to your doctor. You may be creating side effects if you do not take proper precautions.

Some of the side effects that you may experience from any prescription drug are severe allergic reactions. If you notice conditions like hives, facial swelling, chest pains, or rashes coming up, you need to talk to your doctor right away. Less serious side effects will normally involve nausea, constipation, headaches, dizziness, and problems of that nature. Until you know how you will react to your prescription drug, you may want to hold off on doing any major work so you don’t put others at risk. This is especially true if you have to drive or operate heavy machinery. Keep your prescription drug out of the reach of your children, and make sure that you are always looking out for side effects.
