These issues, which can include everything from heartburn to nausea to bloating to diarrhea, can majorly disrupt your life and make it harder to do the things you want to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Experts often recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/topics\/digestive-health\">frequent exercise<\/a> as a way to keep you feeling good and to make sure your digestive organs are all working as they should. Any type of regular physical activity can help support healthy digestion. However, the following types of activities may be more effective when it comes to reducing tummy troubles and fixing certain bathroom issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Walking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, we know \u2014 you were probably looking for more exciting exercise options that make you feel like you\u2019re making a big impact right away. However, going on a stroll around the block may be one of the best things you can do for your gut. And yes, we do mean simply walking. You won\u2019t get additional benefits by cranking up the intensity and turning your stroll into a run. In fact, you\u2019ll probably feel worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many studies have found that walking can be great for digestion. It can help <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s40279-014-0285-4\">empty food out of your stomach more quickly<\/a>, which can <a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/lab-tests\/gastric-emptying-tests\/\">reduce symptoms<\/a> like heartburn and abdominal pain and help your body absorb more nutrients from your food. A short walk may also <a href=\"https:\/\/diabetesjournals.org\/care\/article\/36\/10\/3262\/30770\/Three-15-min-Bouts-of-Moderate-Postmeal-Walking\">prevent large blood sugar spikes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8035544\/\">minimize gas<\/a> while relieving discomfort and feelings of fullness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walking may also help <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.plos.org\/plosone\/article?id=10.1371\/journal.pone.0234089\">relieve symptoms<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northwestpharmacy.com\/askthedoctor\/what-is-sensitive-gut-and-irritable-bowel-syndrome\">irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/22089363\/\">reduce your risk<\/a> of digestive diseases like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colon cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They say timing is everything \u2014 and this includes scheduling your walks. Yoga\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/25559560\/\">stress-fighting abilities<\/a> can help you relax both mentally and physically and lead to better digestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For improved digestive health, some yoga experts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yogajournal.com\/practice\/yoga-sequences\/8-poses-better-digestion\/\">recommend<\/a> poses or movements that involve twisting or stretching your abdominal area. You can also find plenty of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hbguV_f6XOo\">free, beginner-level yoga videos<\/a> on YouTube that are specifically designed to help with gut symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Abdominal Exercises<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So, you\u2019re feeling uncomfortable and bloated. Sit-ups probably don\u2019t sound too great at the moment, but doing exercises that strengthen your core muscles may help prevent these symptoms in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your core muscles \u2014 the muscles throughout your abdomen, back, pelvis, and hips \u2014 can affect digestion. These muscles help <a href=\"https:\/\/www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au\/health\/conditionsandtreatments\/abdominal-muscles\">control pressure levels<\/a> inside of your abdomen and <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.umich.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/content\/downloads\/bowel-function.pdf\">allow you to have bowel movements<\/a>. Strengthening these muscles may reduce bloating or discomfort. It can also help you better control when you go to the bathroom and avoid accidents.
