Your Access to Affordable Medications at Risk with Proposed Internet Changes
The majority of Internet websites belong to common domains, such as .com, .net., and .org. However, several new and specialized domains are to be released in the upcoming year, including the .pharmacy domain. New domains are reviewed and approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a global organization that also decides which parties will control them.
Recently, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) has applied to ICANN to take over the .pharmacy domain. The NABP has taken a stand against the personal importation of medicines, and is backed by several large pharmaceutical companies. If they succeed in gaining control of .pharmacy, they may establish this as the only accepted domain for online pharmacy websites in the United States, which could lead to the elimination of all others. The NABP is proposing to deny .pharmacy domains to international websites that supply American customers.
Millions of Americans cannot afford their medications locally and rely on access to international online pharmacies to fill their prescriptions. The NABP attempt to control the .pharmacy domain puts your access to this vital resource at risk. Take action now and voice your concern by signing the RxRights.org petition here.
