Proposed Internet Changes Will Restrict Your Access to International Pharmacies Online
Most people are familiar with common Internet domains, such as .com, .net, and .org. Several new domains will be launched by the end of the year, including the .pharmacy domain. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a global organization in charge of reviewing and approving these new domains, as well as determining which parties will operate them.
The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) has applied to ICANN to control the .pharmacy domain. The NABP has long been a critic of importing medications, and is financially backed by several large pharmaceutical companies. Their move may be an attempt to establish .pharmacy as the only top level domain accepted for online pharmacy websites which sell to Americans, and may eliminate the presence of all others. NABP does not propose to grant .pharmacy domains to sites outside the USA which supply American consumers.
Access to legitimate international medications is vital for millions of Americans who cannot afford their prescription drugs locally. The NABP's bid to control the .pharmacy domain puts personal drug importation at risk. However, you can take action to try to prevent this from happening. To voice your concern, click here and sign the RxRights.org petition to oppose the NABP's attempt to take over .pharmacy.
