CANTHARONE PLUS (SALICYLIC ACID/PODOPHYLLIN/CANTHARIDIN)
Time to Remove Unsightly Warts?
Cantharone Plus is a topical prescription medicine your doctor may administer in the office to help rid you of unsightly or bothersome warts, skin growths caused by a virus. Many people just tolerate their wart or warts, but the virus can spread to other parts of your body or be passed to those that have skin to skin contact with a wart, usually because they have a scrape or cut that allows the virus to enter.
Plantar warts can be painful as they are found on the sole of your foot (feet) and can be picked up from public showers, gyms, or pool deck areas where the fungus are most likely to be found. You should always wear something on your feet when walking in areas likely to contain microorganisms, especially if you have any scrapes or breaks in the skin of your feet.
3 Active Ingredients Work Together to Help Remove Warts
Cantharone Plus (Salicylic Acid/Podophyllin/Cantharidin) is applied to the wart by your doctor during a regular visit as it’s important that it is applied correctly and carefully. Salicylic Acid works as a keratolytic agent to soften and remove epithelial cells that are infected by the virus that caused the wart. Podophyllin (Podophyllum) is derived from the American Mayapple or Mandrake and is caustic. It will destroy the tissue affected by the wart. Cantharidin breaks down skin cells to form a blister that interferes with the blood supply supporting the wart.
Your doctor will apply a bandage or tape to the treated area that you can remove within 4 to 24 hours, depending on the size and location of the wart. When the tape is removed, the wart will come off with the blister. Several treatments may be required if there are still viral skin cells remaining.
Conditions Treated by Cantharone Plus
Common warts usually appear on the hands as rough, dome-shaped growths that are grayish brown and are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus may wait for an opportunity to enter through any type of break in the top layer of your skin and cause a common wart.
HPV is also to blame for plantar warts. Tiny cuts or sores on the soles of your feet are an invitation for the virus to enter simply by walking without foot wear while around public showers, locker rooms, or pool areas. Plantar warts are small, rough lesions that usually form on the heel or ball of your foot, causing the wart to grow inward and become quite painful unless removal is done.
Before Cantharone Plus is Applied
Ask your doctor if Cantharone Plus is safe to use if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are nursing a baby. Discuss other medical conditions or allergies you have and tell your doctor about any over the counter or Rx drugs you currently take or use, including herbal remedies and health supplements to be certain there is nothing that will interfere with Cantharone Plus.
