Credelio for dogs (Lotilaner)

Credelio (generic name Lotilaner) is a once-a-month tablet used to kill fleas and control ticks in dogs. It is a beef-flavored chewable tablet that must be taken with food. Credelio works in dogs that are over 8 weeks old and also weigh at least 4.4 pounds.

Ticks can hurt your dog by transmitting infections, such as Lyme disease. Furthermore, when a dog brings ticks into your home, it exposes everyone in your household to these diseases.

Fleas can harm your dog by causing an itchy, allergic reaction that can make your dog constantly scratch and lose hair. Fleas can also suck so much blood that it makes a dog anemic. If untreated, this can be fatal.

When fleas or ticks suck the blood of a dog who takes Credelio, they become paralyzed, can’t move, and are killed quickly after ingesting the dog’s blood.

What are Credelio side effects?

Credelio side effects are rare. In fact, they occur in less than 2% of dogs taking Credelio. Occasional side effects may include weight loss, loose or frequent stools, frequent urination (peeing more than usual), or changes in blood tests (elevated blood urea nitrogen). Call your veterinarian if you believe your dog is experiencing any Credelio side effects.

One dog with a history of seizures experienced tremors and glazed eyes after using Credelio. Animals without a history of seizures who took medicine similar to Credilio for dogs have suddenly developed seizures. If your dog begins shaking, stumbling, or twitching after taking Credelio, contact your veterinarian immediately.

If your dog takes Credelio and experiences uncontrolled vomiting, has a total loss of appetite, or has trouble walking then call your veterinarian immediately as these may be a sign of a serious Credelio side effect.

Credelio should not be used in dogs who are pregnant or nursing.

Store Credelio for dogs away from children and pets to prevent accidental contact. It should not be used by humans. Keep Credelio at room temperature (between 59F-77F).

How long does Credelio last?

One dose of Credelio for dogs will last for 30 days (one month). It starts to work in about six hours, and should kill all fleas and control ticks twelve hours after taking a dose.
