DERMATOP OINTMENT (PREDNICARBATE)
About Dermatop Ointment
Dermatop Ointment contains Prednicarbate, a relatively new corticosteroid that can be applied topically to treat inflammatory skin conditions including eczema, also called atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis. There is no cure for either of these inflammatory skin conditions, but Dermatop Ointment can relieve the redness and itching when eczema or psoriasis flares up.
Dermatop Ointment is similar to hydrocortisone in potency, but has a lower potential to cause skin atrophy. With prolonged use many topical corticosteroids can cause your skin to become thin and paper-like. Dermatop Ointment is less likely to cause this because of the modification to the Prednisolone molecule. This has made Dermatop Ointment a better option for treating children and elderly patients that may need long-term use of a topical medication.
How Inflammation is Reduced with Dermatop Ointment
When applied to the affected area as directed, Dermatop Ointment is absorbed into your skin cells where it inhibits the inflammatory action of your immune system so there are less body chemicals to target your skin and cause redness and itching. The sooner you begin treatment with Dermatop Ointment, the less likely you are to have broken skin from scratching the area that will allow bacteria to cause an infection.
Conditions Treated by Dermatop Ointment
Eczema is a non-contagious condition that can flare-up for many reasons and cause an itchy rash. Coming into contact with certain fragrances, detergents, or jewelry can trigger inflammation or being around smoke, pet dander, and mold can spark an outbreak.
Psoriasis is not contagious, but it is an autoimmune disease that is triggered for no real reason other than your body believes there to be a threat and inflammatory chemicals are triggered to attack your own tissues.
Inflammation is your body’s immune response to a threat which causes prostaglandins and other chemicals to flood to the affected area and cause blood vessels to dilate and try to remedy the situation. This causes your skin to become irritated so you scratch and itch and make it worse.
Before You Apply Dermatop Ointment
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant before applying Dermatop Ointment so it can be decided if this poses any harm to your unborn baby. Breast feeding is considered safe for a nursing baby as long as the treated area is not coming into contact with the baby’s skin.
Discuss other medical conditions and allergies you have with your doctor and list any current OTC and Rx drugs you are taking, including herbal remedies and vitamin supplements as some medications may interact with the ingredients of Dermatop Ointment.
Precautions and Proper Use of Dermatop Ointment
Do not apply Dermatop Ointment to areas of broken skin or cover the area that’s being treated as Dermatop Ointment may be absorbed too deeply and cause unintended side effects. You should not use Dermatop Ointment on young children without the advice of a doctor as the absorption rate could be more intense.
Possible Side Effects of Dermatop Ointment
