What is Erleada?

Erleada (generic name Apalutamide) is a prostate cancer medicine that you swallow once daily.

What is Erleada used for?

Erleada (apalutamide) treats two different types of prostate cancer:

1) A prostate cancer that has spread into other body parts, but still responds to medicine or surgery to lower testosterone

OR

2) A prostate cancer that has not spread to other body parts, but does not respond to surgery or medicine to lower testosterone

What are the side effects of Erleada?

Common Erleada side effects include:

  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Change in taste
  • Losing weight
  • Joint pain
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Rash. Tell your doctor if you get a rash
  • Hot flashes
  • Loose Stools (diarrhea)
  • Muscle spasms
  • Thyroid problems
  • Fertility problems (do not try to father a child or donate sperm while on Erleada and for 3 months after you finish your last dose of Erleada)

Serious, but rare side effects include:

  • Heart disease (Your arteries may become blocked and increase your risk of chest pain, heart attack, or other heart problems)
  • Seizures (Erleada makes it more likely for you to have a seizure and lose consciousness, so avoid activities where you may get hurt due to a sudden loss of consciousness)
  • Falls and bone fractures (Erleada may cause bones and muscles to weaken, and make it more likely for you to fall or break a bone)
