MetroCream Description

MetroCream is a topical antibiotic medication that is used to treat a chronic skin condition called rosacea. Rosacea causes long-term inflammation of the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead, and/or eyelids, with increased redness or acne-like eruptions in these areas of the face. MetroCream helps to reduce the redness and inflammation associated with rosacea but is not a cure.

How Metronidazole Deals with Rosacea

When applied as directed, MetroCream is absorbed into your skin where it interferes with the production of the chemicals that cause inflammation and swelling. It’s important to know that MetroCream can take up to 9 weeks before you notice any improvement in your skin, so be patient and diligent about your treatment.

Symptoms and Risk Factors for Rosacea

Rosacea most often affects adults that are middle aged or older. In its early stages, rosacea may appear as flushing in the center of the face that comes and goes. As the condition advances, the skin takes on a deep red color that is more permanent and the eyes may become affected. Typical symptoms include redness, dryness, itching, burning, tearing, and the sensation of having sand in the eye. The eyelids may become inflamed and swollen. Some people say their eyes are sensitive to light and their vision is blurred or otherwise impaired.

While the exact cause of rosacea is not known, it is more prevalent in women than men and it tends to occur most frequently and is most apparent in people with fair skin. Although there is no cure for rosacea at the present time, it can be treated and controlled with medication like MetroCream.

Before MetroCream is Prescribed

Discuss any risks to using MetroCream if you are pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant, or are breast feeding. MetroCream should be used with care in those with evidence or history of a defect in their blood called dyscrasia. If you wear make-up, apply MetroCream first and allow to dry before doing so.

MetroCream Precautions and Proper Use

Drug interactions with MetroCream are unlikely because only small amounts of the active ingredient Metronidazole are absorbed into the body when MetroCream is applied to the skin. Keep MetroCream away from your eyes. All medicinal products should stored safely out of children’s reach and never shared with anyone else.
