Nalfon Description

Nalfon is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is prescribed to relieve pain and reduce swelling and joint stiffness associated with various conditions, including arthritis. Taking Nalfon, or other NSAIDs is not a cure for arthritis, but part of your treatment plan so you’re able to regain mobility and dexterity without pain and carry on with your daily tasks.

Reduce the Chemicals That Cause Inflammation

Nalfon works by reducing the amount of chemicals produced in your body as an immune response to an injury or threat to your body. These chemicals are called prostaglandins and along with other substances, are responsible for pain and swelling of inflammation as a way to contain the threat and start the healing process.

Prostaglandins stimulate nerve cells, signaling pain to your brain. They cause swelling at the injured site by dilating blood vessels, making space in the capillary walls for white blood cells that your immune system has sent to battle whatever has caused the injury.

Conditions Treated by Nalfon

Nalfon may be prescribed to treat a variety of conditions that include: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory joint disease, and gout. Fenoprofen, the active ingredient in Nalfon, is an effective drug that can also be prescribed to treat mild to moderate pain brought on by repetitive motion disorders (RMDs) like tendonitis and bursitis, as well as menstrual cramps.

Before Nalfon is Prescribed to You

Before you start taking Nalfon, advise your doctor if you have: liver disease; poorly controlled diabetes; heart disease; stroke; high blood pressure; blood disorders, bleeding or clotting problems; asthma; nasal polyps; stomach ulcers or recurring heartburn. Ask the doctor if Fenoprofen is harmful to take if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

Nalfon Risks and Precautions

NSAIDs such as Nalfon may increase the risk for a heart attack or stroke in people who have heart disease. Inform medical staff that you are taking Nalfon if you are scheduled for heart bypass surgery as you may need to stop taking it for a period of time pre- and post-operatively. Long-term use of high dose NSAIDs is not recommended so discuss a maintenance dose once you have the pain and inflammation controlled.
