NAPROSYN SR (NAPROXEN-SUSTAINED RELEASE
Naprosyn SR Description
Naprosyn SR (sustained release), is a slower but longer lasting non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) better suited for treating the symptoms of chronic conditions, including arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, and sprains or strains. Naprosyn SR or Naproxen-Sustained Release may take 1-2 weeks before the full benefits of it are noticeable, so be patient and do not take more than recommended by your doctor.
How NSAIDs Work to Reduce Painful Inflammation
When taken as directed by your doctor, Naprosyn SR will work to inhibit the cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2). These enzymes are responsible for converting arachidonic acids into prostaglandins, which are part of the inflammation and blood clotting process when there is an injury. Unfortunately, inflammation can cause more inflammation so it’s important to take an NSAID such as Naprosyn SR to try and block at least some of the inflammatory chemicals from being produced. This allows pain relief for you so you can carry on with your daily schedule.
Conditions Naprosyn SR Treats
Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common type of arthritis and it can start as part of the aging process around the age of 45. As you get older, the wear and tear on your joints caused by the breakdown of cartilage can make walking, bending, grasping, and other movements quite painful. Risk factors for having OA include aging, family history, trauma or injury to the joint, and being overweight.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease, meaning that your own immune system is attacking the soft tissue in your joints called synovium that produce a fluid designed to nurture your cartilage and lubricate the joints to provide easy movement. Without synovium fluid, your joints will wear down and cause pain, swelling, and inflammation. Naprosyn SR is not a cure for arthritis, but it will provide treatment to reduce your symptoms so you are able to function better.
Before Naprosyn SR is Prescribed
Ask your doctor if Naprosyn SR is safe to take if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast feeding. Discuss other medical conditions or allergies with your doctor and list any current OTC or Rx medications you take or use, including herbal remedies and dietary or vitamin supplements to determine if Naprosyn SR is right for your situation.
Naprosyn SR Precautions
Until you know how Naprosyn SR will affect you, do not drive, operate machinery, or perform any task that requires your full attention. Do not drink alcohol or take aspirin while on Naprosyn SR as this could increase the risk of a bleed in your stomach. You should consult with your doctor before you start, stop, or adjust the dosage of other Rx or over the counter meds you are taking. Always store medications out of children’s reach and never share them with others.
