Undergoing chemotherapy may mean you will spend part of your time afterward feeling nauseous and vomiting. Many cancer treatments may include a medication to prevent you from feeling that way, but Sancuso is a patch worn on your skin that contains an antiemetic medicine that works up to 5 days for continuous control of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). Once you know your schedule for your chemo treatment, you can apply Granisetron Transdermal System 24-48 hours before and undergo your round of medication knowing you do not have to worry about wasting time being ill so you can carry on with your day. The medication is absorbed into your skin cells where it blocks serotonin receptors (5HT-3) that are located in your gastrointestinal system and in the part of your brain that controls vomiting.

The drugs administered for your cancer treatment cause vomiting by releasing serotonin from cells in your gut that also signal the vomit center. By blocking the activity of serotonin, your vomit center will not receive any signal from the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) that tells it you have toxins in your body and need to expel them by throwing them up.

Why Does Cancer Treatment Make You Ill?

Before You Receive Your Sancuso Rx

Ask your doctor about any risks involved with using the Granisetron Transdermal System if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breast feeding. Tell your doctor about other medical conditions or allergies you are being treated for and list any OTC or Rx drugs you currently use or take. Remember to include herbal remedies and vitamin or dietary supplements so it can be decided if Sancuso is safe for you.

Sancuso Precautions

Avoid sunlight exposure while wearing the Granisetron Transdermal System and for several days after as your skin may be more sensitive to the UV rays. Do not place the Sancuso patch on any area of skin previously used within the last 7 days. Do not cut the patch or place it on any skin that has had cream, lotion, or oil applied to it. When you are finished with Sancuso, fold in half and dispose of it out where children and pets cannot get to it.
