Sandomigran DS is Prescribed for Preventing Vascular Headaches

Sandomigran DS (double strength) can help prevent the number of headaches you have as well as their intensity, but it will not stop an attack that has already begun.

How the Active Ingredients of Sandomigran DS Work

Pizotifen works as a strong serotonin and tryptamine antagonist with some sedative, antihistamine, and anti-kinin effects and stimulates your appetite. Sandomigran DS binds to serotonin receptors found throughout blood vessels in your brain in order to reduce inflammation that usually occurs during an attack, and causes certain arteries to constrict to reduce the blood flow. It is also believed that Pizotifen works to lower the amount of signals sent from your cranial nerve that appears to help in the length of your attack.

The antihistamine will work to block the histamine response in migraine headaches and decrease the source of the trigger itself to minimize any symptoms. The anti-kinin effects refers to blocking bradykinin, an inflammatory mediator that causes your blood vessels to widen and aids in some of the migraine symptoms.

Migraine and Cluster Headaches

A majority of those that experience migraine attacks have a migraine without aura. Symptoms include nausea, sensitivity to light, the pain is usually only on one side of your head, and they can last for as long as 72 hours without medication. The other type of migraine some experience is called a migraine with aura. The pain can be as intense, but you experience a type of warning that the migraine attack is coming. This warning may involve seeing flashing or zigzagging lights in your vision, colored spots, temporary blindness, dizziness, a tingling sensation, or one side of your body may become weak. Cluster headaches are recognized by the excruciating, stabbing pain they cause that usually centers around your eye or temple. The attacks are sudden, with no warning and the pain can peak within 15 minutes, lasts about 45-90 minutes and they can occur occasionally or several times a day.

Ask your doctor about the safety of taking Sandomigran DS while you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or are breast feeding. Explain other conditions or allergies you have to your doctor and list any OTC or Rx meds you currently take or use, including herbal remedies and dietary or vitamin supplements. This helps your doctor determine if Sandomigran DS is right for you.

Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any current drugs you take or use without consulting with your doctor. Never take more Sandomigran than recommended and keep all medications out of children’s reach. Sandomigran DS will not work if the headache has already started, this is a preventive drug only.
