Teveten Description

Teveten is an angiotensin II receptor blocker that is prescribed to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke. Taking Teveten as directed will block a chemical called angiotensin II which will then cause your blood vessels to relax and allow for a proper oxygen rich blood flow through your body, especially to your heart.

Blocking the actions of angiotensin II also reduces the action of aldosterone on the kidneys. The result of this is an increase in the amount of fluid removed from the blood by your kidneys. This decreases the amount of fluid in your blood vessels so there will be less resistance and pressure in the blood vessels.

Teveten may also be prescribed to treat congestive heart failure and to help protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes. Congestive heart failure (CHF) occurs when the heart fails to adequately meet the needs of the organs and tissues for oxygen and nutrients. The amount of blood that the heart pumps is not adequate to circulate the blood returning to the heart from the body and lungs and may cause fluid to leak from capillary blood vessels. The most common causes of congestive heart failure are coronary artery disease, hypertension, longstanding alcohol abuse, and disorders of the heart valves.

Before You Take Teveten

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or are breast feeding as Teveten may be harmful to your unborn or nursing baby. Discuss any medical conditions or allergies you have and list all Rx drugs or OTC medications you are taking, including herbal remedies and vitamin supplements. This will help your doctor to determine if Teveten is the right medication for you.

Proper Use of Teveten

Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any drugs you currently take or use as combining Teveten with other meds could change its efficacy or cause unintended interactions. Do not drive or participate in activities that may be unsafe until you know how Teveten affects you. Teveten is an effective treatment to reduce high blood pressure, but it is not a cure. Eat healthier, lose weight, limit alcohol intake, and quit smoking.
