VERAFLOX ORAL SUSPENSION FOR CATS (PRADOFLOXACIN)

Treatment for Feline Acute Upper Respiratory Infections

Veraflox Oral Suspension for Cats is a fluoroquinolone class of antibiotic that can be prescribed by your veterinarian for treating specific bacteria that have caused symptoms of sneezing, conjunctivitis, nasal congestion, and a discharge from the nose and eyes. Some respiratory infections may be a result of a virus and your vet may recommend Veraflox Oral Suspension to help prevent a secondary infection caused by opportunistic bacteria.

How Veraflox Oral Suspension for Cats Works 2 Ways

When administered as directed, the active ingredient called Pradofloxacin works by targeting 2 vital enzymes called DNA gyrase and DNA topoisomerase IV. Susceptible strains of bacteria that include Escherichia coli (E. coli) and a group of the Staphylococcus intermedius require these enzymes in order to grow and replicate. Veraflox Oral Suspension is also able to kill non-replicating bacteria that are dormant or in a stationary phase. For certain skin infections, your veterinarian may also prescribe Pradofloxacin to kill the bacteria and help with healing.

Important to Know About Upper Respiratory Infections

If you have a multiple cat household, you must confine the sick feline as soon as possible as this infection can easily be contracted by other cats in the home. URIs are spread through sneezing, coughing, grooming each other and even by sharing the same water or food bowls. If you have an indoor/outdoor cat, there’s a risk of getting sick from neighboring cats.

Although it is the viral infections that are more prevalent, bacteria can take advantage of a compromised immune system from the viral infection and begin its own breeding grounds. Vaccinating as a kitten is a great start to preventing illnesses.

Before Veraflox Oral Suspension for Cats is Prescribed

Tell your Veterinarian if your cat is, or may be, pregnant or nursing kittens as it is not clear if Veraflox Oral Suspension for Cats could be harmful to unborn or unweaned kittens. Give the vet a history of other illnesses your feline has been treated for and any current meds you are giving that include flea prevention and deworming to be certain Pradofloxacin is safe to administer.

Veraflox Oral Suspension for Cats Precautions

Use a syringe for dosing your cat as it is more accurate, easier to handle, and you have less risk of getting Veraflox Oral Suspension for Cats on your skin or in your eyes and mouth. If this occurs, rinse the product from skin and out of your eyes and mouth as soon as possible. Keep all human and pet meds out of children’s reach. If there is no change in your cat’s symptoms after 3 days of taking Pradofloxacin, revisit the veterinarian for further instructions.
