VITRASE OVINE (VITRASE OVINE)

Vitrase Ovine Description

Vitrase Ovine injection is a genetically designed protein. This spreading substance is used with other medicines given under the skin to improve their uptake by the body. This method of drug delivery is only used when the drug cannot be given by injection into a vein.

Conditions Treated by Vitrase Ovine

Vitrase is used together with fluids injected into the body to treat dehydration. Water is vital for all aspects of the normal functioning of the body including healthy functioning of joints and skin, digestion, waste product removal and muscle and nerve function. Dehydration occurs if more fluid is lost from the body than is absorbed. This may be due to illness, lack of sufficient fluid intake, or excessive sweating. Severe dehydration may require admission to a hospital for intravenous fluid replacement.

Vitrase ovine injection is also used to increase absorption of fluids or medicines that are injected into your skin. It also used to help improve absorption of radioactive substances during a procedure called subcutaneous urography. Contrast dyes in your body show more clearly on certain types of x-rays or scans.

Before You Use Vitrase Ovine

Serious drug interactions can occur when certain medicines are used together with Vitrase. Before receiving Vitrase, tell your doctor if you are using any of the following drugs: furosemide (Lasix); phenytoin (Dilantin); a sedative or anxiety medication (such as Valium, Xanax); aspirin or salicylates; cortisone or ACTH; estrogens; or an antihistamine (such as a cold or allergy medicine).
