VUSION OINTMENT (MICONAZOLE NITRATE/ZINC OXIDE/PETROLATUM)

Vusion Ointment Description

Your doctor or pediatrician may recommend treatment with Vusion Ointment for severe diaper rashes that have been complicated by a fungus commonly known as Candida albicans. Along with proper cleaning of your child’s diaper area with frequent diaper changes, the ingredients of Vusion Ointment can quickly bring relief to your baby’s bottom. The combination of Miconazole Nitrate/Zinc Oxide/ Petrolatum is simply applied to the inside of a clean diaper where it can work on the fungus infection. This helps to avoid further complications from smearing Vusion Ointment on with your fingers that can also carry bacteria and fungus.

How the Active Ingredients Work to Soothe a Fungal Rash

Once applied as directed, Miconazole Nitrate works as an azole antifungal medicine that prevents the growth of fungus by inhibiting the fungal enzymes that make an essential component of their cell wall membranes. Without this component called ergosterol, their cell walls are weak and start to leak so they are not able to grow and multiply resulting in eventual death. Together, Zinc Oxide and Petrolatum forms a barrier on baby’s tender skin to protect it from moisture and irritation.

Conditions Treated by Vusion Ointment

Diaper rashes caused by infection with a yeast (fungus) called Candida are very common in children as Candida grows best in warm, moist places, such as under a diaper. Various things can cause diaper rashes, such as chafing against the diaper, skin infections, or allowing a baby to remain in a soiled, wet diaper. They cause a patch of bright red skin on your baby's buttocks that can be very painful and uncomfortable.

Before You Use Vusion Ointment

Vusion Ointment should only be used to treat a diaper rash if the presence of a yeast infection has been confirmed. The appearance of a yeast infection causes the rash to display an undefined edge to it and is bumpy with increased redness. A regular rash will last for about 3 days while one caused by fungus will last longer.

Vusion Ointment Proper Use

Treatment with Vusion Ointment should be continued for the full seven days, even if there is improvement. If symptoms have not improved by day seven, you should stop treatment and contact your physician.

Possible Side Effects of Vusion Ointment

  • Dryness
  • Peeling skin
  • Skin irritation

You should stop using Vusion Ointment and call your doctor if there is severe discomfort, redness, or other irritation of the treated skin area.
