Publicity Growing Over Credit Card Brands Blocking Imported Medicine Purchases
As you likely already know, Visa and MasterCard have begun ordering banks to cease processing transactions for merchants that let Americans import lower cost medicines. These actions frustrate the ability of Americans to purchase non-controlled personal prescriptions from legitimate importation sites that are certified by the Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA) and Pharmacy Checker, including NorthWestPharmacy.com. Visa and MasterCard have done so under pressure from Big Pharma advocates.
Our last newsletter highlights a recent major media article which references this while CIPA reported on this quite some time ago here. Online pharmacy accreditor, Pharmacy Checker, notes that "VISA's online pharmacy policy ends up discriminating against consumers seeking affordable medication from safe international online pharmacies."
Now, the Campaign for Personal Prescription Importation (CPPI) is drawing attention to this. CPPI is calling on legislators and others to help stop this reprehensible practice which serves to benefit those with an interest in Americans paying more for their medicines. But they need your help so we encourage you to check out CPPI's latest blog article about the Big Pharma pressure on Visa and MasterCard to deny credit card processing to international online pharmacies which Americans import medicines from.
In the meantime, we continue to offer convenient options to scan or fax us a copy of your check for electronic payment so that your order is processed as fast as it would be had you used a credit card.
GOP Presidential Candidate Pens Op-Ed Supporting Importation of Drugs from Canada
The former Governor of Arkansas and current GOP Presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee, has written an editorial piece in support of drug importation from Canada which was recently published in the Orlando Sentinel.
We think you might be interested in reading it so here is a re-print posted on the candidate’s website: https://www.mikehuckabee.com/2015/5/grant-americans-free-trade-on-prescriptions
(We posted a reprint because the Orlando Sentinel website requires you to sign up before you can read it.)
While we do not endorse any particular candidates, we simply hope the above will spotlight the importance of imported medicines to affordable healthcare and we hope that Mr. Huckabee and other candidates will call out Big Pharma, Visa and MasterCard on their approach which will frustrate access to lower cost medicines, as discussed above.
