A new study featured in a recent U.S. News & World Report article reveals that when drug companies raise prescription drug prices, even those with health insurance pay more out of their pocket.
Using a database of 30 million Americans with health insurance during 2015-2017, "researchers zeroed in on 79 brand-name drugs, finding that list prices typically increased by about 17% over the two-year period" and those on plans with deductibles and co-insurance payments saw their out-of-pocket costs rise nearly in lockstep -- paying 15% more for those drugs.
… "[o]n average, research shows, [list] prices [for prescription drugs] have increased by 9% each year over the past decade".
The U.S. News & World Report article also notes that "[o]n average, research shows, [list] prices [for prescription drugs] have increased by 9% each year over the past decade". There have already been record-setting prices increases by drug makers this year and these are expected to be "just the beginning of price increases for 2021".
That’s why it is not surprising that NorthWestPharmacy.com has many customers who have health insurance coverage. Customers often discover that it can be less expensive to buy their prescriptions through NorthWestPharmacy.com in cash than to use their insurance and incur hefty deductibles and co-pays at their local pharmacy as drug prices rise substantially and annually.
Important News Affecting the Pricing and Availability of Prescription Drugs
We recently advised customers about factors that are negatively impacting the availability and driving up the price of prescription drugs internationally right now.
The best thing you can do to help secure inventory for your medications at the current prices is to order well in advance. This gives us more time, if necessary, to procure what might be difficult to source inventory and get it shipped to you well before you are going to run out of your supply at home and before there are any increases in the price. We encourage customers who may need medications in the coming months to place their orders now.
